Positano:
Transportation to Positano: We took a train from Rome to Salerno and then a ferry from Salerno to Positano. The ferry was about an hour and a half and was great because you get to see the Amalfi Coast which is absolutely beautiful. I think the ferry in total was about 30 euros and that included all of our luggage. Once you get to Positano there will be a lot of luggage porters at the dock, USE THEM!!!. We thought we could carry our luggage to the hotel…. big mistake lol. Positano is on a hill and the walkways are tiny. Looking back it’s hilarious but during that moment I wanted to throw my luggage off the cliff.
Things to do: Positano is very small and you can see the whole town in an afternoon; however, there are so many cute little shops, restaurants and bars that you will want to spend at least 2 days here, relaxing and enjoying this little piece of paradise. One thing I do recommend is to rent a beach lounge, it’s 20 euros per person but it’s worth it. You have your spot all day long and they have a waiter that serves drinks and food. We did this on our last day and it was our favorite part of our whole trip.
Restaurants: Chez Black!!! My favorite restaurant in Positano. They have the BEST pizza and the ambience is amazing, especially at night (a local band played while we had dinner, everyone was dancing and drinking wine… what I imagine when I think of Italy). We ate here twice because we both loved it so much. Get lemon sorbet that is in an actual lemon from Ristorante Covo Dei Saraceni, it’s delicious and I’m not a huge fan of lemon sorbet. They also have really good sandwiches if you want a quick lunch.
Day Trip to Capri: I highly recommend doing this because there is not a lot to do in Positano. Our round trip ferry was 40 euros for both of us and it takes about 30 minutes to get there (make sure you take the fast ferry and not the one that carries cars, that one takes 1 1/2). Capri is beautiful in a different way. The water is sooo blue, it’s unreal.. it looks edited. The best way to see the island is by boat. We sadly rented one but it was canceled because it was pouring when we got there. We both were so bummed because we were really looking forward to it but we decided that we will come back and stay for a couple of days. We got really lucky and the sun came out around noon so we walked (hiked) to a beach club called La Fontelina. You feel like you’re in a James Bond movie. It is expensive but it’s worth the experience and also worth the hike to get there. You can only take a boat or hike to the club which gives it that exclusive feel. Bring cash because the boat and the beach rentals are cash only and they don’t have an ATM machine. Capri also has amazing shopping, it’s like rodeo drive but on an island and better 🙂 There is so much we didn’t get to do but we are definitely going back and spending more time.
Italy was by far my favorite country and this trip was so special to me, I got engaged to my best friend. Everything about the proposal was perfect. It was just us, the beautiful backdrop of Positano and a delicious glass of champagne.
