Words cannot even begin to describe how beautiful Bora Bora is! All of the pictures on instagram and google don’t even come close to capturing all of its beauty. You have to experience it for yourself! It’s expensive, but it’s worth every penny!!
- Staying in an overwater bungalow is a must! They’re pretty pricey, but you can enjoy so much of what Bora Bora offers from your room. If you’re not going to stay in one of the bungalows, I think you’re better off visiting Hawaii instead.
- First you fly into Tahiti, then you take a smaller plane to Bora Bora–which is about a 45 minute flight. Once you land in Bora Bora you have to take a boat to your hotel. We stayed at the Conrad Bora Bora and they offered a shuttle service, round trip for $140/person. If your hotel is on a seperate motu (smaller island) like ours was, it’s easier–and about the same price–to take their private shuttle. If your hotel is on the main island, a public shuttle boat can take you there for cheaper.
- Cocktails and alcohol in general at the hotels are $$$$$. We knew this before hand and brought in our own alcohol. You’re allowed to bring into Tahiti 2 liters of alcohol/person, and once you land in Tahiti they have a duty free store, so you can stock up on more. We brought a bottle of gin, rose, rum, and tonic water, and ordered fresh juice to the room and used that to make our cocktails. These were perfect while we hung out on our balcony and drank all day. However, you should definitely order at least one cocktail while you’re at lunch or dinner–they’re delicious and the presentation is beautiful.
- Most of the hotels offer a shuttle service from your resort to the main island. Ask for the schedule when you arrive, so you can plan out your trip. They only offer a couple rides during the day, and after a certain hour, they increase the price significantly. We only had a couple hours, so we grabbed lunch at Bloody Marys. It’s a famous restaurant on the island that a lot of celebrities have visited. For dinner they serve the catch of the day on display and it is buffet style–lunch is more casual. Pricing is a lot cheaper from the resorts, so this is a perfect spot to relax and drink a lot of cocktails–their pina coladas are to die for!!
- We arrived at the resort early in the morning but check in wasn’t until 3 pm, so the hotel put us in a temporary room where we could shower, nap, and relax until our room was ready. And when we wanted to explore the resort, we were able to leave everything in that temporary room and everything was brought to our new room for us.
- Being able to wake up every morning to the view of the beautiful lagoon, opening our glass doors to our balcony, and sitting on the edge of our private dock while taking in all of the beauty, and feeling so incredibly lucky for being able to experience it.
- Walking barefoot or riding our bikes to the breakfast buffet. This wasn’t an average hotel buffet, it had a huge variety of breakfast foods, including polynesian food, fresh fruit, different immunity shots, an assortment of pastries and anything off of the breakfast menu. This was included in our room package, which I highly recommend purchasing.
- Hanging out on our balcony while we listened/danced to music (each room of the bungalow has bluetooth speakers), sipping on cocktails and relaxing by the water. Occasionally taking dips into the ocean and snorkeling around our bungalow. It truly felt like we were living in paradise.
- Snorkeling trip–we swam with manta rays, which was one of the top 10 best experiences of my life. They’re so majestic! It took us about 45 minutes to see them, so I think having to patiently wait made it that much more special. We also snorkeled through the coral gardens which was basically like swimming through the coral reefs in Finding Nemo–so colorful and beautiful, it didn’t even feel real. We booked our trip through Bora Bora H20
- Watching the stunning sunsets every night, star gazing while laying on our hammock over the water, watching a movie in bed with a view of the lagoon and the sound of the water hitting the bungalow, and showering every morning while watching the little fishies swim by.
- Being able to completely relax, unplug from the outside world/work, and spending quality time with Chase. I now understand why Bora Bora is such a desirable place for a honeymoon and any vacation in general.
